Jess is originally from Sydney but moved to WA for work and fell in love with the Pilbara and is excited to learn more about the history of the Nyiyaparli community and get to know the Nyiyaparli members!

As the Heritage Advisor with KNAC she’ll be helping the heritage team to protect Nyiyaparli heritage by performing research, due diligence assessments, and aiding the implementation of heritage surveys and consultations.

She is an archaeologist and anthropologist and has been involved in heritage surveys throughout WA. She previously worked in a museum cataloguing artefacts, at a university as a research assistant, and has been part of archaeological excavations investigating Aboriginal and colonial material in Sydney, and Iron Age IIB material in Israel.

Courtney joins KNAC as a Heritage Advisor, helping the team to protect Nyiyaparli heritage. She is looking forward to returning to her consulting roots in Western Australia, where she gained a wealth of knowledge from working throughout the Pilbara and Burrup Peninsula.

Courtney is an archaeologist with over eight years of experience working throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. She has been involved in an array of heritage projects from large scale renewable developments, mining and Defence projects.

Prior to her Heritage Advisor role at KNAC, she completed her MPhil at the University of Queensland and the Max Planck Institute of Human History, Jena, Germany in late 2021. Her work focused on using ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry) to investigate the introduction of domesticates to island eastern Africa.

Outside of work Courtney enjoys baking and exploring new places (both domestically and abroad).
