Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the Native Title representative group for the Nyiyaparli People with approximately 400 current members. The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region, the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases and significant mining operations. Locations within the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli people, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools and natural resources.

KNAC is the endorsed and authorised heritage service provider for the Nyiyaparli people.

We place a high value on our people and are now seeking to engage an experienced Data & Records Officer to be based in the South Hedland office.

The role

Reporting directly to the Heritage and Land Manager this role is an opportunity to maintain quality records and information management services to KNAC Heritage and Land Management, and Native Title teams. 

You will be proactively tracking manual and computerised records, and undertaking the retrieval of archives and disposal of records in accordance with statutory, organisational, and operational requirements. 

You will also:

  • Coordinate the data collection process and maintain the central databases for the Heritage and Land Management, and Native Title teams.
  • Support sound data collection tools that provide accurate indicators and other information needs
  • Maintain and retrieve information held on KNAC computer system and transfer information from paper copy to computer file
  • The Keeping Place – curation and management of data on The Keeping Place system 
  • Provide spatial analysis and mapping support (GIS) as directed
  • Ensure that written and electronic correspondence is captured accurately within the corporation records management system 
  • Support the improvement around business efficiencies particularly within Data Management to ensure naming conventions and filing system is congruent to corporation standards
  • Collaborate with Corporate Services Team on developing a standard operating procedure and guideline for data storage and management for Heritage and Land Management, and Native Title teams.


What you need to succeed

You will need an information technology background or experience in data and records management. You will also need:

  • GIS or ability to quickly acquire knowledge
  • Detailed high level Excel and Microsoft office suite experience
  • Solid knowledge and experience in system filing and process development
  • Understanding of integration, storage, modelling of data management
  • Experience in a dynamic and fast paced work environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently 
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
