About KNAC

KNAC is the endorsed and authorised native title and heritage service provider for the Nyiyaparli people and is based in Port Hedland. Our Determination Area covers approximately 40,000 square kilometres of Nyiyaparli traditional country and encompasses the town of Newman, the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases and significant mining operations.

KNAC currently has offices in South Hedland and Newman and employs around 26 staff. It is governed by a Board of Directors and led by a Chief Executive Officer.

It is committed to the protection and management of Nyiyaparli Native Title and Heritage for the benefit of its people.

About the Role

We are seeking a talented Home Programs Support Person to join our vibrant team within our growing office.  The successful person will primarily assist KNAC members with purchasing homes, securing rental properties and ongoing maintenance of homes purchased through the Housing Project Committee (Mutual Trust).  The position is in South Hedland.

You will be contributing to a positive work environment through being an advocate for the Corporation and the members, and by providing high level support and assistance to ensure the team operates smoothly.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist KNAC members with necessary paperwork to purchase a home.
  • Advocate and assist with KNAC members obtaining a rental property.
  • Work with stakeholders i.e., builders, service providers, government
  • Assist Nyiyaparli beneficiaries with obtaining 100-point ID check.
  • Maintain regular engagement with individuals ensuring they continue to receive the supports and services they require.
  • Coordinate and/or provide guidance for repairs and maintenance.
  • Liaising with Real Estate Agents, Landlords, Insurance companies and relevant stakeholders to provide appropriate support to tenants to minimise both rental and mortgaged property arrears and minimise tenant responsibility maintenance charges.
  • Follow up repairs as per building inspection reports when property purchased i.e., water damage, painting, gardens.
  • Liaising with the Professional Trustee (Mutual Trust), including attendance at Housing Project Committee meetings to provide reports and updates on relevant matters.

Selection Criteria:  

  • Experience in a similar position in interacting with Aboriginal people in dealing with their situations.
  • Knowledge of property market in the Pilbara area
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and responsively.
  • Demonstrated practical problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working effectively with clients with complex needs and an ability to manage conflict effectively and confidently.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Current clean and full driver’s license
  • Experience working with Aboriginal people is highly considered.
