OFFICIAL OPENING OF KARLKA NYIYAPARLI ABORIGINAL CORPORATION RNTBC OFFICE – 13 JUNE 2024
Last Thursday was a very special day for Nyiyaparli people with the official opening of the Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) office in South Hedland. The opening also provided the opportunity to pay tribute to Mr Gordon Yuline and recognise his contribution to the establishment of the corporation which has become one of the leading Registered Native Title Body Corporates in the country.
The event was hosted by KNAC’s Chairperson Mr Keith Hall. Mr Hall spoke of the importance of ensuring Mr Yuline’s work to establish the corporation and its member benefits was never forgotten, and invited comments from other Senior Nyiyaparli men, Mr Leonard Stream (also KNAC Vice Chairperson) and Mr Brian Tucker as well as the KNAC CEO Cate Ballantyne.
We also wish to thank Kariyarra Elder, Rayleen Button for providing the Welcome to Country and support for the corporation and its business on Kariyarra country.
It's been a long time coming to recognise the old fella, to put his name up there and what he has done for the Corporation........for an non educated man to where we are today is a massive thing.
Leonard Stream, KNAC Vice Chair
We're here to pay our respects to all our Elders past and present but today especially Uncle Gordon. We all know the hardship he went through....
Keith Hall, KNAC Chair
Thank you to the many members, including Directors and family, who came along to be part of this important event.
Mr Yuline’s Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) was also presented to the corporation on the day by members of the Yuline family for safe keeping. Parts of this award from January 2014 will soon be on display at the KNAC office in accordance with the families wishes.
