Originally from NSW, Kate has been in Perth for many years where she works as KNAC’s Native Title Lawyer, General Manager Native Title, Heritage and Environment.
She has a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Arts (Political Science Hons) and has worked for over 15 years as a lawyer for Native Title groups and organisations in the Pilbara.
She manages the Native Title team and provides advice to the corporation on KNAC’s rights and responsibilities as a registered native title body corporate, including land use agreement negotiation and implementation; Cultural Heritage & Environment management & protection matters; and approvals and consultation processes
MICHELLE GARDNER
Heritage, Environment and Stakeholder Engagement Manager

Michelle is from Perth and is now based in the KNAC Hedland Office as the Heritage, Environment and Stakeholder Engagement Manager working within the Native Title team.
She has a BSc (Hons) with majors including Conservation and Wildlife Biology. She taught a range of science based units at Murdoch University for over a decade and is currently completing her thesis for her PhD research in genetics and population management of fish.
In addition to providing subject matter expert advice on environmental matters and facilitating Nyiyaparli participation in environmental activities, Michelle plays a key role in liaising with stakeholders to improve information provision and consultation methods.

Jess is originally from Sydney but moved to WA for work and fell in love with the Pilbara and is excited to learn more about the history of the Nyiyaparli community and get to know the Nyiyaparli members!
As the Heritage Advisor with KNAC she’ll be helping the heritage team to protect Nyiyaparli heritage by performing research, due diligence assessments, and aiding the implementation of heritage surveys and consultations.
She is an archaeologist and anthropologist and has been involved in heritage surveys throughout WA. She previously worked in a museum cataloguing artefacts, at a university as a research assistant, and has been part of archaeological excavations investigating Aboriginal and colonial material in Sydney, and Iron Age IIB material in Israel.

Courtney joins KNAC as a Heritage Advisor, helping the team to protect Nyiyaparli heritage. She is looking forward to returning to her consulting roots in Western Australia, where she gained a wealth of knowledge from working throughout the Pilbara and Burrup Peninsula.
Courtney is an archaeologist with over eight years of experience working throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. She has been involved in an array of heritage projects from large scale renewable developments, mining and Defence projects.
Prior to her Heritage Advisor role at KNAC, she completed her MPhil at the University of Queensland and the Max Planck Institute of Human History, Jena, Germany in late 2021. Her work focused on using ZooMS (Zooarchaeology by Mass Spectrometry) to investigate the introduction of domesticates to island eastern Africa.
Outside of work Courtney enjoys baking and exploring new places (both domestically and abroad).
ANGELIQUE COOK

Angelique grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and now is based in Hedland where she works as the KNAC Heritage & Environment Governance Coordinator.
She coordinates daily heritage services operations with the support of Heritage Administration staff and working in collaboration with the KNAC Cultural Advisor and other key Heritage Services staff. Additionally, she is working towards drafting implementation plans and processes to support KNAC Heritage Services functionality and responsibilities.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in Internal Auditing and worked as a risk-based Internal Auditor for 8 years in South Africa. In recent years since moving to Australia she has added to her skill base by taking on numerous administration roles including Senior Governance Advisor and Senior Risk and Audit Advisor at the Town of Port Hedland.
FAITHE DRUMMOND

Logistics Officer

Originally from Karratha, Faithe is now based in Hedland, started in April 2024 and is employed at KNAC as the Heritage Services Logistics Officer.
Her role includes coordinating schedules for KNAC representatives working on mine sites and organising medicals and the onboarding process for them in addition to arranging all the travel and accommodation needs for those out on surveys.
KAITLYN BURTON
Project Officer Environment

Katie is from Collie, a small mining town in the South West but now lives in Hedland. She joined KNAC in May 2024 as the Project Officer Environment.
She has a Degree in Anthropology from Curtin University and then lived overseas gaining new experiences, including a spell in New Zealand working and volunteering with animal sanctuaries, caring for the land and the animals. Since returning to Australia she worked as a tour guide talking about the history, geology and culture of the Margaret River area.
In her role she is responsible for facilitating environmental discussions and engagements between Nyiyaparli representatives and relevant stakeholders. These engagements enable shared learning between Traditional Owners and external stakeholders to work towards better planning and management to care for country.
SEL GREGORY
Native Title Compliance Officer

Sel grew up in Samoa and in Wellington, New Zealand and is now settled in an eastern suburb of Perth.
As the Native Title Compliance Officer her role is to ensure that proponents comply with their agreement obligations, including the payment of financial benefits under Native Title land use agreements. She cultivates strong relationships with stakeholders, including Nyiyaparli Trust representatives and mining proponents.
She is currently developing an environmental compliance tracking register to enhance our monitoring capabilities.
GEORGIE DILLON

Georgie grew up in Chittering, a rural area outside of Perth and is now calling Hedland home.
As the Native Title Implementation Officer she provides support to the Native Title team.
She liaises with internal and external stakeholders to ensure Agreement Implementation Committee meetings run efficiently and also collaborating with KNAC staff to implement processes. Georgie also ensures that future act notices and other important agreement related correspondence is processed and actioned in a timely manner.
KEVIN HILL
Native Title Paralegal

Kevin started in September 2024 as KNAC’s Native Title Paralegal providing support to the Native Title Lawyer.
His professional background includes roles in Employment and Settlement services, local councils, the United Nations and Jubilee Australia. Transitioning from Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) projects to self-directed work, such as his research on “Black Sand Mining in the Pacific: Tentative Listing to World Heritage Listing and National Heritage Law Protection” with Jubilee Australia, led him to the Environmental Defenders Office, where he gained valuable experience in environmental and administrative law. This experience, combined with his passion for heritage and culture, ultimately brought him to his current role at KNAC.
He is passionate about outdoor activities including hiking, kayaking and backpacking, immersing himself in different cultures and landscapes, and shaping his strong commitment to preserving the environment and supporting the communities connected to it.

Susan joined KNAC in December 2024 as the Data and Records Officer with the Heritage Services team.
As a Cultural Heritage Professional with a background in Heritage, History, Archives and Research, she joins us with significant experience for this important role. Starting her career as a librarian she has been working as a Heritage Consultant before joining us at KNAC.
Feeling a strong connection to nature and the land, she is passionate about the protection and conservation of cultural landscapes and heritage places.
