About Us:

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the registered native title body corporate for the Nyiyaparli People with approximately 450 current members.

The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region, including the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases and significant mining operations. Locations within the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli people, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools and natural resources.

Location:

The position is based at KNAC’s Newman office. 

Position Purpose:

The primary purpose of this community-facing role is to represent KNAC and identify, coordinate and strengthen local partnerships and support structures that benefit Nyiyaparli People and others living on Country, with a particular focus on youth, community wellbeing and on Country initiatives.

This role supports culturally grounded, community-led initiatives in Newman aligned with KNAC’s strategic plan and the Newman Initiative, with a focus on relationship building, partnerships and community engagement. Based in the Newman office, it provides administrative and logistical support across local partnerships, community initiatives and daily operations. The role maintains stakeholder records, supports community events and assists in delivering services to local Members. It works closely with the Hedland-based Corporate and Community teams to ensure coordinated local outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local Newman-based organisations, schools, service providers and key stakeholders.

  • Identify and support partnership opportunities aligned with KNAC’s strategic objectives and the Newman Initiative.

  • Provide administrative, logistical and practical support for community programs, events, workshops and engagement activities.

  • Maintain accurate stakeholder, partnership and engagement records, including databases and reporting documentation.

  • Support KNAC Members by responding to enquiries, assisting with applications and providing referrals to relevant internal teams.

  • Coordinate and attend meetings with internal teams and external partners to support program delivery and outcomes.

  • Monitor partnership activities and contribute to reporting, evaluation and continuous improvement.

  • Promote cultural safety, confidentiality and professionalism when representing KNAC in the community.

About You

We are looking for an engaging, proactive, and community-minded professional with strong relationship-building skills and a passion for supporting Indigenous community initiatives.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

  • Self-starter who proactively seeks learning, development and continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in using office software such as Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn other software and systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage partnerships.

  • National Police Check.

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC).

  • Driver’s license.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with Nyiyaparli or other Aboriginal communities.

  • Knowledge of Nyiyaparli culture, traditions, and language.

  • Familiarity with Work Health & Safety (WH&S) requirements.
