Community Partnerships Liaison Officer - Newman

About Us 

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the registered native title body corporate for the Nyiyaparli People. We represent approximately 400 members who are the Traditional Owners of 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the East Pilbara region, including Newman, Jigalong, Parnpajinya, pastoral leases, and significant mining operations. Our work is dedicated to preserving and promoting Nyiyaparli cultural heritage, supporting community programs, and fostering strong local partnerships. 

Location

This role is based at KNAC’s Newman Office. 

Position Purpose 

The Community Partnerships Liaison Officer plays a key role in fostering meaningful and productive partnerships that benefit the Nyiyaparli People and align with KNAC’s strategic plan. Based in our Newman office, this role will focus on supporting employment, training, and business opportunities within the Nyiyaparli Determination Area. 

 

You will develop local employment pathways, support youth engagement and skill development, and strengthen KNAC’s stakeholder relationships. This includes working closely with external agencies, community organisations, and corporate partners to enhance Nyiyaparli representation in local initiatives. 

 

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include: 
  • Develop and implement structured onboarding processes for BHP trainees. 
  • Conduct fortnightly catch-ups with trainees and monthly site visits, including cutlural awareness and mentoring sessions. 
  • Support and maintain partnerships with employment, training, and business support providers (e.g., C-RES, Trading Tracks). 
  • Assist the Member Support Officer – Commerce in facilitating training and business opportunities for KNAC members. 
  • Coordinate and support community programs such as:
  • WA Cricket partnership
  • Creating Communities East Newman initiatives 
  • Shooting Stars Newman Carnival 
  • Maintain the Employment, Training & Business Support database. 
  • Facilitate conversations between KNAC internal teams and local agencies to embed Nyiyaparli culture and language in community iniatives. 
  • Ensure Work Health & Safety (WH&S) compliance in all activities. 
 

Qualifications & Experience

Essential experience and qualifications include:

  • Proven experience in community partnerships, employment, or training initiatives. 
  • Strong ability to develop and manage partnerships with stakeholders. 
  • Experience in youth engagement and skills development. 
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. 
  • Strong project management and organisational abilities. 
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management.
