About Us

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the Native Title representative group for the Nyiyaparli People, with approximately 400 current members. The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the east Pilbara region. This area includes the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parnpajinya, several pastoral leases, and significant mining operations. Locations within the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli people, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools, and natural resources.

KNAC is hiring two (2) Data & Records officers; the first position will be part of the Heritage team, and the second will be part of the Information & Technology team.

Heritage – Data and Records

Location

This role is located at KNAC’s South Hedland office or as a remote working role based in Perth.

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Heritage Services Manager, the Data & Records Officer is responsible for maintaining quality records and information management services to KNAC’s Heritage and Land Management and Native Title teams. This role involves tracking manual and computerised records, retrieving archives, and ensuring the disposal of records in compliance with statutory, organisational, and operational requirements.

The Data & Records Officer will also carry out quality control checks on the data management system, ensuring version control, naming conventions, and best practices are upheld across the corporation.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Manage databases and tracking registers for Heritage Services data.
  • Ensure compliance with heritage legislation and agreements.
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure secure data management, adhering to cultural restrictions.
  • Conduct quality control checks, ensuring best practices in data management.
  • Maintain a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity in all data-related tasks.

Qualifications & Experience

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required include:

  • Experience in data and records management.
  • Experience using GIS (Geographic Information System) or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated understanding and respect for Aboriginal cultures, with the ability to manage data in a way that respects cultural restrictions and protocols.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in system filing and process development.
  • Understanding of integration, storage, and modelling of data management.
  • Experience in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Information & Technology – Data & Records Officer
Location

This role is located at KNAC’s South Hedland office.

Position Purpose

Reporting to the Information & Technology Coordinator, the Data & Records Officer will contribute to developing and supporting KNAC’s information systems by managing accurate, up-to-date, and usable data and records. The role involves facilitating the migration of records from legacy systems, ensuring data integrity, generating reports, providing internal support, and assisting in the development of information management processes.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Accurately enter and maintain confidential data in database software.
  • Perform regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Migrate records from legacy systems to SharePoint, ensuring accurate metadata management.
  • Support staff in the usage of data and information systems on an as-needed basis 
  • Develop automations and workflows to streamline data management and improve efficiency.
  • Provide advice and support to staff on data management tasks.
  • Assist with implementing SharePoint functionalities and developing information management processes.
  • Maintain compliance with WH&S and confidentiality standards.

Qualifications & Experience

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required include:

  • Demonstrated experience in data entry and management, including data collection, database maintenance, data curation and data retrieval
  • Familiarity enterprise content management systems and/or electronic document and records management systems
  • Familiarity with records/information management principles and practices
  • Advanced information and technology skills, especially in Microsoft Office Suite and Windows 11
  • Project management skills to oversee data-related projects and initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with a range of stakeholders, manage conflicts of interest and practice confidentiality and privacy values. 
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to adapt to changing data management technologies and methodologies
  • National Police Check
