Nyiyaparli, KNAC and DBCA representatives joined Environment Minister Reece Whitby at Coondiner Pool last week to celebrate the signing and registration of the Fortescue Marsh Nature Reserve (Nyiyaparli Country) ILUA approved by Common Law Holders in November last year.

It was great to have all members of our Board in attendance as well as members of the Karlka Advisory Group, Fortescue Marsh Interim Joint Management Body Committee Members, Fortescue Marsh Negotiation Team, Nyiyaparli Rangers and senior staff. KNAC Chairperson, Keith Hall was MC for the event and also acknowledged the Elders whose tireless work help make this historic outcome possible, and whose spirit continues to guide our work.

This agreement provides the Marsh with the highest protections available and ensures Nyiyaparli will co-manage the reserve with DBCA. It marks an important outcome for protecting and managing an important part of Nyiyaparli Country. It is an outcome that all Nyiyaparli people can be proud of and we look forward to celebrating together at the end of the year. We also look forward to continuing our work to protect and manage more Nyiyaparli Country.
